Dangers in the locker room
It’s not just the stench of the typical gym or locker room; it’s what’s left on the equipment, in the changing rooms, and on the benches. In fact, just about every surface. Tests show that the locker room hosts more bacteria than the typical toilet.
Meningitis
Meningitis loves crowded locker rooms, and dorms. This is why most colleges require meningitis vaccines. This dangerous inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord kills 10-15% of victims and leaves another 20% with permanent side effects like hearing loss or brain damage. It strikes over 2,600 people per year, with over one-third of those within the teen and young adult category
Mono (Infectious Mononucleosis)
Infectious Mononucleosis is known as the kissing disease and once you have it, it never fully goes away. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) Symptoms usually begin to appear 4-8 weeks after infection:
— Fatigue, weakness, fever
— Sore throat, headaches
— Loss of appetite
— Swollen lymph nodes
— Sore muscles, abdominal pain
— Larger-than-normal liver or spleen
— Skin rash
Ringworm
Good old ringworm is still hanging around and is common among wrestlers. While it is easily treated, it will keep your player out of competition for 5-10 days. And if the player isn’t disciplined enough to complete the course of medication, the condition will return and he’ll be missing another 5-10 days. And you’ll be performing another round of heavy-duty clean-up
